The Energy and Policy Institute is seeking a Public Records Counsel to manage public records requests related to energy policy and utility oversight. This is a remote, full-time position focused on using transparency laws to hold energy companies and regulators accountable.

The Public Records Counsel will draft and file public records requests with state utility commissions and government agencies, review and analyze responsive documents for newsworthy information, manage a portfolio of pending records requests across multiple jurisdictions, collaborate with journalists and researchers on investigations, track utility industry lobbying and political spending, maintain records databases and organizational systems, and provide legal analysis on energy regulatory matters.

The Energy and Policy Institute is a watchdog organization that exposes attacks on renewable energy and documents the influence of fossil fuel interests on public policy. Their research has been cited by major news outlets including the New York Times, Washington Post, and Reuters.

Qualifications: JD or equivalent legal training. Experience with state public records/FOIA laws. Interest in energy policy, utility regulation, or climate advocacy. Strong research and analytical skills. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational abilities.
